Gehlen came to his concept of human nature through a combination of philosophical and biological influences. He was influenced by the existentialist philosophy of thinkers like Martin Heidegger and Friedrich Nietzsche, which emphasized the idea of human beings as fundamentally incomplete and in need of self-creation. Additionally, Gehlen drew on biological theories of evolution and adaptation, particularly the work of Konrad Lorenz, to develop his understanding of human nature as shaped by the need to adapt to the environment. This combination of philosophical and biological perspectives led Gehlen to conceptualize human nature as characterized by a fundamental lack and the need for cultural and social institutions to compensate for this lack. **

Werther's change in mood is reflected in his descriptions of nature and people in the letters through his shifting perceptions and emotions. When he is in a positive state of mind, he often describes nature as beautiful, serene, and harmonious, and people as kind, understanding, and compassionate. However, as his mood darkens, his descriptions of nature become more bleak, chaotic, and foreboding, and his descriptions of people turn more critical, judgmental, and distant. This demonstrates how Werther's internal struggles and emotional turmoil influence his external perceptions of the world around him. **
